I still remember when I interviewed my principal in my middle school, I asked him: “ what kind of teachers could be teacher leaders, he told me that : “ The leader should be an excellent teacher in the classroom, and then he could have a mind to contribute the school.” How to be an excellent teacher then?
They could balance the life and the career well. Actually, from my perspective, a good teacher does not mean that he or she should work always late and does not have to look after the family. They would like to develop their professional expertise. Some experienced teachers think it is comfortable for them to make little changes, even in the information age, they refused to accept the challenges and changes. If a teacher does not own professional skills, he or she would try their best to just survival in daily teaching, which means they have never had such energetic feeling to involve others things, let alone leadership.
Teachers’ reluctance to take on leading ship roles may stem not from a lack of interest, but from a desire to protect the time they need to balance work and personal responsibilities. (The sleeping Giant)
Teachers could shadow the students and really experience the student is spending in the school, what he or she is interested, where it seems they do not understand well. We can also send the students to the other class or grades. It will be helpful . You can also shadow other teachers or even the principal, if he or she has enough time of course. In 13 steps, it is interesting to analogy the teaching to be a black box, which means you need always to find evidence.
In learning by heart, it was impressive that the author considers a good school should be like a boat. Because you always have a lot of new knowledge to study and there are always uncertain things happen everyday, however, you need to know, you are not alone. You have others’ support. I love the schools mentioned in chapter 5, which really establish a society for students to really get to know what they are interested in and they will make their own efforts to do they like. Interests are always the best teachers.
